RAC meeting, Nadi – April 2010

RAC Chair Ranmali Fernando (NZ MFAT IDG), Tony Annandale (PICP Secretariat), Gina Houng Lee (RRRT) and Ioane Alama (PIF Secretariat) at the RAC meeting.

The PPDVP Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) met in Nadi on the 27th April 2010.  The members endorsed the draft PPDVP Annual Plan for 2010 – 2011.  The six monthly summary of participating and country activities led to a range of discussion with some very useful input from the RAC members where it linked with their own activities.

The RAC welcomed the Australian Federal Police, Pacific Police Development Programme (PPDP) who joined the RAC as a member, with Federal Agent Leanne Lomas taking up that role.

The Pacific Islands Forum Law Enforcement Adviser, Ioane Alama, attended as a guest of the meeting and briefed the members on the follow up activities to the Pacific Islands Forum leaders 2009 communique from Cairns on Sexual and Gender Based Violence.  These will be considered by the Forum Regional Security Committee (FRSC) on 3rd June 2010.

The RAC members reviewed the original Terms of Reference for the RAC to ensure that these are still valid.  The Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) will be invited to consider how they are represented at the RAC, with an option of greater participation from in country senior police, when they meet in Brisbane in August 2010.

The next RAC meeting will be in November 2010, and will consider the four re-assessments of the original Baseline Reviews of the PPDVP participating countries conducted in 2006 and 2007.  These are available on this site at the Resources tab on the Home Page.  http://www.ppdvp.org.nz/resources/
