RRRT Consultation at Nadi

Tongan participants prepare their annual plan of action

The Regional Rights Resource Team (RRRT) programme to support Changing Laws – Protecting Women held their annual consultation in Nadi in the week of the 22nd February 2010.  The week of consultations followed an intensive training week in Suva for the In Country Focal officers employed around the region.

“The consultation served as an excellent chance for the PPDVP to be represented with the RRRT activities” said the Programme Manager – Cam Ronald. “There were a lot of opportunties in the discussion sessions, and during the various breaks, to discuss areas of interest – it’s always great to have a “one on one” with people.”

The consultation heard of progress across the region and in countries to advance legislation, policy and awareness on family law and domestic violence law.  Each country told of their activities, and later in the consultation prepared a buisness plan for the coming 12 months with outputs and outcomes clearly defined.  Many were focussing on bringing the issue to the notice of the Government, developing police, the first steps at legislation, and informing and activating their communities.

The PPDVP mentors work closely with the RRRT focal officers, as well as others attending the workshop, while they are in the participating and linked countries for the PPDVP
